Ch 14.33 - Right to Bear Arms
"God created men, Samuel Colt made them equal, and John Browning made them civilized." - Unknown, Old West Adage. Colt invented the Single Action Army (SAA), ironically known as the 'Peacemaker.'
a. 2nd Amendment
------------------------
”A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” - Bill of Rights, Amendment II - Right to bear arms
"‘Shall Not Be Infringed’, it’s as American as well aged Kentucky Bourbon." - Unknown
"A free man doesn't ask permission to arm himself." - Unknown
”I want to say those fighting words for everyone within the sound of my voice to hear and to heed, and especially for you Mr. Gore… from my cold, dead hands!” - Charlton Heston
“An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.” ― Robert A. Heinlein. This may also explain why people have always been more polite in the South and West. For many years people carried guns and would avoid slighting one another lest they risk their life over a petty offense.
“The 2nd amendment does not apply to auto, semi-auto rifles, nor does it apply to bolt action rifles, pistols, revolvers, or 'ghost guns.' The 2nd Amendment RESTRICTS GOVERNMENT. The technology of the firearm is irrelevant. The restrictions of government remain the same, regardless of the firearm. The 2nd Amendment was not written to grant permission for citizens to own and bear firearms. It forbids government interference in the right to keep and bear arms, period. The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” - Unknown
"One only begins to appreciate how different America is, how singular the Bill of Rights is once one understands how things are in other countries. The right to free speech doesn't exist in England. The right to be secure in your home doesn't exist there either. Nor does the right to remain silent or multiple other rights. Monarchs and tyrants loathe the concept of personal rights and freedoms. Above all else, your would-be rulers hate firearms which level the playing field and render them impotent. The right to keep and bear arms has never taken root in England despite attempts since 1215. This is the difference between a free people and subjects. The monarchists keep trying to reduce you to their subjects. Stay free, America." - Unknown
“I ask who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers.” - George Mason, June 4, 1788, Address to the Virginia Ratifying Convention
“Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of.” - James Madison, January 29, 1788, Federalist No. 46
"You have more than you know. Over the last 5 years, the American public purchased more guns than every military force on the planet combined. Americans own 400 million civilian-owned guns in the US. Every law enforcement agency in America combined have about 1 million firearms in their inventory. That means American civilians have about 400 TIMES as many firearms as American police. Similarly, the American military is estimated to hold about 4.5 million firearms. That means American civilians have 100 TIMES as many firearms as every branch of the American military COMBINED. Furthermore, the Small Arms Survey estimates all the world's law enforcement agencies combined hold about 22.7 million guns. In 2017 alone, the FBI processed 25.2 million gun checks. The American public bought more guns in 2017 than every police agency in the world combined." - Unknown
"When I was in HS I used to go to the library at lunch quite often and read the newspaper. About 1979 there was a letter to the editor. It was a doctor at a major US West Coast hospital. One of his patients was a high ranking Japanese military man that served in WWII. He had a heart condition and went to the best hospital money could afford. The doctor asked his patient why the Japanese never attacked the US West Coast during WWII. The US expected it and had built many lookouts along the coast and had 2 dirigibles stationed in Tillamook, Oregon. The Japanese general had replied, 'The Americans have cars and guns. That is the most formidable army we could face.' If you are paying attention, your government is trying to take away both." - Unknown
b. Oppression
------------------------
"How else are you going to keep a tyrannical imperial government in check? That is the entire point of 2A...for force A to equal force B." - Unknown
"Throughout human history, governments have committed at least 99% of all murders. Since governments are controlled by their respective Ruling Classes and politicians, that means that they are the most prolific murderers. Governments always want to disarm their own citizens because it makes them easier to murder." - Unknown
"Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace." - James Madison
"Let's face it. You don't own anything unless you hold it physically and can defend it with force. Everything else is just a promise with a corrupt government or corrupt corporation." - Unknown
"That right to self-defense includes defense against a tyrannical government. In fact, the Second Amendment protects us from many of the worst threats in this modern era." - Unknown
"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subjugated races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjugated races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or native police." - Adolf Hitler, Hitler's Table Talk, 1941-1944: Secret Conversations.
Anytime I quote Hitler, I have the opposite point of view. Any 'subjugated race' should have the right to bear arms. In 2020, 45,222 people died from firearm injuries in the United States. Compare that to a few of the genocides we've seen in recent history:
1920 - 10-20 million - Mass murder, forced labor, and famine under Stalin
1932 - 4-7 million - Ukraine Farmers under Holodomor
1941 - 6 million - Jews under Holocaust
1958 - 45 million - Chinese under Mao's 'Great Leap Forward'
1975 - 2 million - Cambodian genocide under Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge
1994 - 1 million - Rwandan Tutsis killed by Hutu extremists
And for those of you who think it couldn't happen in the United States:
- there are 2 million fewer Indians today than there were in 1492
- 120,000 Japanese Americans were forcibly relocated to 10 internment camps in WWII
It would take 22 years of firearm deaths in the United States to equal one Rwandan genocide. It would take 1,000 years to equal one 'Great Leap Forward.' While every death is tragic, I prefer taking my chances with my fellow Americans than risk being subjugated and genocided by a tyrannical government. Maybe some of these atrocities could have been prevented if more people had access to firearms.
"Every Communist knows the truth; 'Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.' (Supreme Mass Murder Chairman Mao, November 6, 1938)," - Unknown
"You think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons…" - Brandon/FJB
"Listen, you fantastically retarded motherf*cker. I'm going to try to explain this so that you can understand it. You cannot control an entire country and its people with tanks, jets, battleships and drones or any of these things that you so stupidly believe trumps citizen ownership of firearms. A fighter jet, tank, drone, battleship or whatever cannot stand on street corners and enforce 'no assembly' edicts. A fighter jet cannot kick down your door at 3AM and search your house for contraband. None of these things can maintain the needed police state to completely subjugate and enslave the people of a nation. Those weapons are for decimating, flattening and glassing large areas and many people at once and fighting other state militaries. They have automatic weapons while the people have nothing but their limp dicks. BUT when every random pedestrian could have a Glock in their waistbandand every random homeowner an AR-15 all that goes out the f*cking window because now the police are outnumbered and face the reality of bullets coming back at them. If you want living examples of this look at every insurgency the US military has tried to destroy. They're all still kicking with nothing but AK-47's, pick up trucks, and improvised explosives because big scary military monsters you keep alluding to are all but f*cking useless for dealing with them. Dumb. F*ck." - Unknown
"It is typical **** liberal nonsense that I hear all the time: 'The founders used muskets! They weren't envisioning military-grade weaponry like assault rifles.' They used the same calibers and grainage as the Imperial British soldiers with their Brown Bess rifles. Many of the colonists also used the Brown Bess themselves. They owned and operated the military 'assault rifles' of their time, the same kind as the most elite army in the world of their day." - Unknown
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." - Unknown
c. Gun Control/Confiscation
------------------------
"The founders didn't need gun control laws because their people control laws were good enough. A guy with this man's record would have been shot or hung pretty early in his criminal carreer so his gun rights would be moot anyway." - Unknown
"Q: Do you have any history of mental illness in your family?
A: I have an Uncle who thinks gun laws prevent crime." - Unknown
"To ban guns because criminals use them is to tell the law-abiding that their rights and liberties depend not on their own conduct, but on the conduct of the guilty and lawless." - Jeffrey R. Snyder
"If violent crime is to be curbed, it is only the intended victim who can do it. The felon does not fear the police, and he fears neither the judge nor the jury. Therefore, what he must be taught to fear is his victim.” - Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, U.S.M.C.
"Today's agenda: release all violent crime offenders from prison, observe resulting violence, use that to take away everybody's guns." - Unknown
"Show me one crime that was prevented by gun-control laws." - Unknown
"Criminals tend to brag about their criminality when they believe there's nothing anyone can do about it." - Unknown
"The people without any guns want to go to war with the people that have all the guns." - Unknown
"That rifle hanging on the wall of the working-class flat or labourer's cottage is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there." - George Orwell
"Rome remained free for four hundred years and Sparta eight hundred, although their citizens were armed all that time; but many other states that have been disarmed have lost their liberties in less than forty years.” - Niccolo Machiavelli (Discourses on Livy)
"The government believes everything is theirs. They believe they are doing you a big favor by paying you anything at all for your firearms." - Unknown on the gun buyback program in San Antonio
"My teacher told me guns kill people... I told her my pencil failed my math exam." - Unknown
"How any more senseless tragedies do we need to see before we make change? Every week we have another mass shooting that’s totally not instigated by three letter agencies. The solution is clear. We need common sense gun proliferation. If more Americans were armed, they could stop bad guys in their tracks. Every state needs universal, permitless carry. We should also fund initiatives to give people free gun safety and maintenance training, marksmanship training and a $500 Federal tax credit for purchasing their first hand gun." - Unknown
”If you give up on gun ownership now, owning phasers won't even be possible 30 years from now. They would phaze them out too.” - Unknown
d. Self Defense
------------------------
"When seconds count, the police are only minutes away." - National Rifleman's Association
"A retired FBI agent I know was robbed recently. He was upstairs when the guy broke in, and called down, 'I'm in the house, and I'm armed. If you come upstairs, I will shoot you. Leave.' Asked him why he let the guy go. 'Because my sh*t isn't worth more than someone's life.'" - Unknown
"Cowards give gun owners a bad name. Keep your fears to yourself, some situations don't require lethal escalation." - Unknown
"You can't call yourself 'peaceful' unless you are capable of decisive and lethal violence. If you aren't capable of violence, then you aren't peaceful, you are harmless. Very important distinction there." - Jordan Peterson
e. Maintaining Ownership
------------------------
"Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin
"Pay in cash at the gun show from a private seller (not from one of the FFL guys)." - Unknown
"Never buy new, always buy used in states that don't require FFL transfers for PP sales. F 'em. Let them come find what I don't have on paper." - Unknown
"It's mainly semi-auto rifles that they're after. It's not for nothing that soldiers are always equipped with rifles because they're much easier to aim and shoot than handguns, especially at long distances. You don't see soldiers running around with pistols." - Unknown
"A handgun is a good tool to fight your way to your long gun." - Col. Cooper
"Anything you register, you no longer own." - Unknown
"I wasn't asked, but if I was, I wouldn't tell." - Unknown, on gun registration
”Ghost gunner 3 creates perfect lower receivers from a block of metal. And the folks with def dist have created a huge library of printable plastic automatic rifles. Why buy one gun when you can print or mill hundreds for the price of 3 rifles?” - Unknown
